Exercise and PAH: What’s right for you?

Is exercise right for you?

In short, it depends. And only your doctor can tell you for sure. He or she knows about your physical condition and can give you advice about whether or not you should start an exercise plan.

Important: Follow your doctor’s advice for how to help manage your PAH with treatment. Exercise alone is not a treatment for PAH. Talk to your PAH doctor before beginning any exercise program.

In some people with PAH, exercise has been shown to be beneficial. As part of a complete treatment program, exercise can potentially improve ability to walk, breathing capacity, and WHO Functional Class. But just because exercise is appropriate for some people with PAH, it doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

It’s up to your PAH doctor to decide if you should start an exercise program.

If you and your doctor feel exercise is right for you, make a plan

Work with your doctor to figure out how often and how long you should exercise, as well as what types of exercises you should try. You can also explore the rest of this site for more PAH treatment support as you begin exercising with PAH.
